KinesIo TapE & Healing
Kinesio Tape is a therapeutic procedure using special tape invented by Japanese chiropractor Dr. Kenzo Kase, DC. Iowa Family Chiropractic offers Kinesio Tape to help complement your chiropractic adjustment by supporting muscles and joints while removing congestion (swelling) from areas of inflammation. Kinesio tape is ideal for athletes, people with achy muscles and joints, migraine sufferers, and more.
KINESIO TAPE:
• Reduces pain by causing the body to release endorphins and encephalons (the body's natural pain relievers).
• Helps adjustments hold by gently supporting the area.
• Reduces swelling by improving lymphatic flow.
• Corrects muscle function by reducing muscle fatigue and over contraction.

You may have noticed Kinesio Tape on Olympic Gold Medalist Kerri Walsh's shoulder or read about Kinesio Tape in Lance Armstrong's "Every Second Counts", where he refers to Kinesio Tape as
"Something better than any laser, wrap or electric massager...special tape that came from Japan and seemed to have special powers. Every morning before the stage, they would tape us up, different parts of our bodies...George's back, Chechu's knees. Sometimes we'd be so wrapped up in hot-pink tape that we'd look like dolls, a bunch of broken dolls. But the next day the pain disappeared-it was gone."
HOW DOES KINESIO TAPE WORK?
Conventional athletic tape is designed to restrict the movement of affected muscles and joints. For this purpose, several layers of tape must be rolled on the affected areas, applying significant pressure and resulting in the obstruction of the flow of bodily fluids. That is why athletic tape is usually applied before an activity and removed soon thereafter. On the other hand, Kinesio Taping allows free range of motion in order to allow the body's own muscular system to heal itself biomechanically. The tape itself is very thin and the wave-like glue pattern of the tape allows the skin to virtually be lifted from the affected area and gently massages the area during movement, allowing for lymph and circulation improvement along with joint stability.
Dr. Kellie has taken special training to be able to follow Kinesio Tape protocol for taping.
